The Union government has announced Leave Travel Concession (LTC) rules for central government employees for air ticket booking. The guidelines, issued by the Department of Post under the Ministry of Communications, explain rules in regard to air ticket booking agents, ticket fare etc.
Government staff can book LTC tickets on private Airlines. Leave Travel Allowance (LTA) is a tax exemption offered by employers to their employees. Leave Travel Allowance is an allowance paid to the employee by the employer when the former is traveling with their family or alone. The amount received as LTA is tax-free up to a certain limit under Section 10(5) of the Income Tax Act, 1961. Eligible employees for leave travel concession flights bookings include employees of the state and central governments, public sector undertaking, employees of the educational institutions recognized by state / central government or affiliated to any university / educational board.
